If ever you want to try something different .. test your patience and frustrations then I suggest you try an Autogyro.

​

With the help of a very experienced and clever man Tom Wright (unfortunately past away a couple of years ago) helped me to design this Autogyro trainer .. we decided to call it APT ... Autogyro Progressive Trainer

The APT starts with a simple fixed head rotor, rudder and elevator only and a small wing .. progressing to a single function head and eventually to remove the trainer wing.

So … between us, Toms expertise in autogyro and mine in Sketchup design / drawing we designed what I think is the ultimate trainer for first time autogyro pilots … and … if I can do it … anyone can

As a newcomer to autogyro ... with this model, I was able to learn to fly (on my own) in just a few weeks

Post number #244 shows how I progressed from a complete novice to flying as a reasonably proficient autogyro pilot

This is the final progression I guess ... dual head without the wing ... a proper autogyro 

I was flying most of the time between 1/3 and 1/2 throttle and up to 3/4 occasionally 

Stage 1 was ... Fixed head with rudder and elevator control ... WITH the wing

Stage 2 was ... Single function head for roll and elevator for pitch ... WITH the wing

Stage 3 was ... Double function head with roll and pitch in the head and fixed elevator ... WITH the wing

Stage 4 is ... Double function head with roll and pitch in the head and fixed elevator ... WITHOUT the wing ... rudder for ground control only

I would like to thank Tom for his great design and as a trainer, I think the APT is a winner ... Tom, lots of commentary in this one for you 

For newcomers to autogyro ... if built as close as possible to the plans and specs .... and progressed from learner though intermediate to full double function head autogyro ... you will be able to teach yourself to fly autogyro

I am a newcomer to autogyro and with this model, I was able to learn to fly (on my own) in just a few weeks
